Belton Presents on Statelessness in The Bahamas and the DR

Kristy Belton, a POLS Ph.D. candidate, was invited to present her work, “Different Context, Same Result? A comparison of statelessness in The Bahamas and the Dominican Republic” at the “Simposio sobre Derecho a la Nacionalidad y Estado de Derecho en República Dominicana: Retos y Perspectivas” in Santo Domingo last week. This symposium was a follow-up to the conference that took place at Georgetown University on statelessness in 2011. In attendance were officials from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, officials from the Dominican government, as well as protection officers from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the local representative of the International Organization for Migration, among others. Belton’s work stressed the regional nature of the problem of statelessness.
