Hertel at Co-op on new book (Dec 7)

Shareen Hertel and Kathryn Libal on Human Rights
Wednesday, December 7, 2011
4:00 pm, UConn Co-op

Profs. Shareen Hertel and Kathryn Libal will talk about their new book Human Rights in the United States: Beyond Exceptionalism, recently published by Cambridge University Press. The book brings to light emerging evidence of a shift toward a fuller engagement with international human rights norms and their application to domestic policy dilemmas in the United States. It offers a rich history, spanning close to three centuries, of the marginalization of human rights discourse in the Unites States.

Shareen Hertel is Associate Professor of Political Science at UConn, jointly appointed with the Human Rights Institute. Kathryn Libal is Assistant Professor of Community Organization in the School of Social Work.
